If you want a motoring equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife this may well be it – the Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro.
Instead of looking at filling one niche, Audi has had a go at the whole damn lot.
The problem is, a Swiss Army Knife may try to do all things, but does it do any of them particularly well?
Audi says this is a kind of convertible SUV, with a clean engine, that likes to cruise boulevards, has four seats, goes up mountains and has good handling. Hmm.
It has adjustable ride height, a 3.0 V6 TDI with 240 bhp, giving it a 0-62 time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph.
Fuel consumption meanwhile is 38.6 mpg.
There is also Internet-based satellite navigation using Google Earth functionality, internet radio facility.
Inside Audi has taken the cup holder game up a peg or two, with heated and cooled drinks holders.
Audi says the concept is the ‘latest in a long line of Audi design studies, many of which have entered series production virtually unchanged.’
However expect it without the convertible roof in the form of the forthcoming Q5 4x4, which will be a Land Rover Freelander rival.
