Baddies dreaded this in their rear-view
There was a time when the only thing you needed to make a hit TV show was a lead character with curly hair, a car that looked faster than it probably was, and lots of tyre-squealing stunts.
Now, you’re probably thinking Knight Rider and his oddly camp sidekick Kitt, but there was another man who drove everywhere at 150 mph on public roads in the name of justice.
His name was Mark McCormick, a race driver accused of stealing cars, and the show was Hardcastle and McCormick.
The Hardcastle in the title referred to Milton C. Hardcastle, a retired judge, who teamed up with McCormick to set straight all the cases he had to dismiss due to legal technicalities.
Sounds ridiculous? It was, but the best bit about the series was McCormick’s car – a Coyote.
The car was often seen jumping through the air with McCormick supposedly at wheel heading off to settle a few more scores.
Now one of the Coyote’s in the programme has apparently popped up on eBay, this one being the car that did many of the stunts.
The seller says it is the ‘sole survivor’ and has been ‘resurrected using ORIGINAL TV show preparation guidelines.’
This car uses an ‘original replicated body of "close up" Delorean Coyote used by Brian Keith and Daniel Hugh Kelly over OFF ROAD ENGINEERING tube chassis’. Whatever that means.
There is a ‘1900cc EMPI Type III engine with dual Dellorto carbs and “Screamer” ignition package’.
It has disc brakes all round and is said to be ‘very fast’.
Starting price is $10,000, and there are no bids so far.
The description also reads: ‘Original wheels and tires complete with “landing” marks on the inside of all four wheels.’
So if you are after a bit of TV motoring history, but can’t get anything from decent shows like the A-Team, Knight Rider or the Dukes of Hazzard, then have a look at this.
