Do you wanna be a record breaker?
The problem with breaking a world record is there will always be someone who comes along and tries to break it again.
However the record set by Matthew McKnight is not going to have many people actively trying to pursue it, or at least not on purpose.
Mr McKnight has reportedly got a place in next year’s Guinness Book of Records for the ‘Greatest Distance Thrown in a Car Accident’.
The 29-year-old lived to tell the tale after being thrown 118 feet by a car that hit him while travelling about 70 mph.
It is said the volunteer firefighter and paramedic was struck on October 26, 2001, while trying to help accident victims along an interstate near Pittsburgh.
He suffered two dislocated shoulders and a broken shoulder, pelvis, leg and tailbone.
He was in hospital for two weeks and 80 days in rehab before going back to work in April 2002.
The paperwork for the record was apparently submitted by Mr McKnight's emergency room physician, Dr. Eric Brader.
‘I thought it was a big joke. Dr. Brader is known for joking around a lot,’ McKnight told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
‘But when he brought (the paperwork) to me, I saw how serious he was.’
