Soon to feature a diesel?
Ford has announced that they plan to cut production of the Mustang V8.
The Mustang, launched in 2004, has proved more popular than expected with around 52% of all cars sold being fitted with the V8 unit, more than the planned 70% V6 / 30% V8 split originally forecast.
The V8 model has proved popular since day one, with engine production being increased three times in the first three months of the car being on sale. Now production has been reduced to 45% with the remainder being V6.
Most surprising though is the fact that Ford claim they are cutting V8 production due to rising fuel prices.
Chief Engineer Paul Randle added 'we've got a really respectable fuel economy rate on the V6, with the V6 Mustang giving 24 mpg when equipped with an automatic transmission' hinting that Ford are encouraging buyers to go for the V6 over the more traditional V8.
