Pictures have been leaked onto the web of the top secret Land Rover LRX concept which is not supposed to be revealed until next week.
The new ‘cross-coupe’ is expected in 2010 and as the pictures show it promises to be a compact, sleek offroader.
It looks good, managing to move on Land Rover’s style direction, while keeping the obvious links with the past.
The blacked-out rear pillar is a Range Rover trademark and the front has more than a hint to Range Rover sport.
The car is said to be based on the Freelander platform but will be 10cm shorter.
The coupe styling suggests this could be the most road-biased Land Rover yet, although it will have permanent four-wheel drive and good off-road capability.
There is understood to be an ‘Eco’ mode for urban driving as well as the usual Hill Descent Control and Terrain Response system.
When in ‘Eco’ mode the cabin will glow green, it will go red in sport mode and will stay blue the rest of the time.
The whole concept gives a nod towards Land Rover’s green credentials and even the seats are apparently vegetable-tanned leather.
Expect a hybrid to be in the line-up and the production model to look very similar to the concept.
