Mini. Time to think of a new name?

It is no secret that the once small, cheap, city-car that was the original MINI is soon to become its arch enemy - an SUV.

But despite previous reports it would be called the Monte or the Colorado, it now looks like it will be named the Crossman.

To be fair fans of the original Mini probably won’t care what it is called because they won’t want one but if you are after a retro soft-roader this could be its name.

Some say it sounds like a cross-dressing superhero, but to me Crossman is what someone will be when they realise they would have been better off buying a normal MINI to poodle around central London.

MINI CEO Kay Segler reportedly let slip the new name while being interviewed by Auto Motor und Sport.

Magna-Steyr is expected to build 80,000 Crossmans at its factory in Austria each year, starting in 2010.

The name is supposed to be a mixture of Crossover and Clubman. Clever.
