Sat-navs are handy for saving a few minutes to a journey but one driver found had four days added to his.
The trucker was reportedly trapped on a cold country lane for more than half a week after his sat-nav directed him down a road too narrow to pass.
Whereas most people might have got out when they realised they were stuck this hapless driver was ordered to stay in the truck by his boss.
And stay he did, for four days, sleeping in the cab and surviving on sandwiches given to him by residents of Lansdown, between Bristol and Bath.
The road was unsurprisingly shut until the vehicle could be shifted and later it was impounded and the driver returned home to Lithuania.
Locals have complained that sat-navs are showing the route as a shortcut meaning vehicles are getting stuck.
One resident, who asked not to be named, told the BBC that the driver’s company had ordered him to stay in the lorry.
‘So many of us felt sorry for him that we were bringing him coffee and sandwiches,’ she said.
‘In the past we've even had coaches get stuck and a whole group of tourists with their suitcases have had to get out and walk back to the main road to be retrieved.
‘We've had two or three vehicles stuck here every year.’
The council is now said to be reviewing whether more signs are needed.
