So I just found it, in a puddle
A MOTORIST who was stranded in floodwaters at Staverton Causeway in Wiltshire last week has told how his day went from bad to worse.
Kevin Purbrick was rescued by firefighters when the rising water trapped him in his Ford Mondeo.
Although he escaped from the drama unscathed, when he returned to pick up his car the next day he discovered it had been stolen.
The 41-year-old builder has been teased by colleagues for getting stuck in the first place but claims it was not his fault.
Kevin told his local newspaper: "I have lived around here for years and I know when the road is passable and when it's not.
"At 6.20am when I drove along the road it was open, there were no warning signs and the road was under a few inches of water. It was passable. I drove through behind a lorry and got halfway across. Then a car coming in the opposite direction hit the water at speed and the car conked out."
And when he went to retrieve his car in the afternoon, the water was still high so he left it overnight, but luck was not on his side.
He said: "I went back in the morning and it had gone. I rang the police to see if they had taken it and then checked with all the recovery firms but nobody had it. It turns out someone had been in overnight and nicked it. The police are still looking for it. It was a day I won't forget."
