And winner of the worst press release this month goes to…Peugeot.
Quite why anyone would be compelled to buy a car just because pantomime dame and reality TV star Christopher Biggins has just ‘bought’ one is anyone’s guess, but the French firm clearly thought it was worth a go.
Apparently Biggins has just strolled into a dealer to get himself a 207 CC, a car that really doesn’t need a boost in the campness department, and the Peugeot PR department has gone into overdrive.
According to the jaunty press release that pinged into the PH inbox this morning the 207 CC is, as you probably have already guessed, the motoring equivalent of Biggins.
‘It’s better, leaner and a great all-round performer – just like Biggins himself!’ the release declares.
Apparently Biggins, who won ironically titled TV reality show ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’, already owned a 206 CC and was ‘completely smitten with the all-round practicality and enjoyment of the new car’.
‘I’m a modest motorist, but I simply love any opportunity to enjoy open air motoring (it reminds me of that jungle experience) and I have to say this car is a complete breeze. I can even get the roof down in 25 seconds, and it’s a thrill to drive,’ said Biggins spontaneously.
‘I’ve ordered my new car for delivery in March - so I can be one of the first to have the new ’08 registration numbers. I simply can’t wait to drive it with the roof down, and with a Lion at the front of the car – I might just be ‘King of the Road’, too!’
