A biker allegedly hit 189mph on a public road
Police chiefs are calling for speeding videos to be banned from sites like YouTube in the same way as gratuitous violence, it has been reported.
Officers want the government to step in and force websites to stop showing the videos if they will not ban them themselves, reports the BBC.
This could mean a new law that prohibits any website from showing speeding footage.
There have been a number of high profile speeding videos appearing on YouTube recently and critics argue they only fuel the anti-car debate.
Adam Briggs, the Deputy Chief Constable of North Yorkshire, is said to be meeting ministers next month to ask them to step in.
He said: ‘As gratuitous violence and inappropriate sexual scenes are displayed on the web, this kind of recklessness is something else we feel should be banned.’
