A parking ticket machine's apparent failure to record a sum of just 20p has cost an angry motorist more than £400.
Former antiques shop boss Ilya Galic ended up handing over £410 to a council-appointed bailiff last week after he says the machine under-recorded his payment seven months ago.
Four policemen in two separate cars were called to his house in Newbridge after a row developed when he had asked a bailiff, who had demanded Mr Galic hand over his car, to leave.
The saga began in August when the 67-year-old drove into the city centre to visit a bank and a phone shop.
He paid what he thought was £1.20 for a one-hour stay, but returned around 40 minutes later to find a £30 fine notice on his wife's Peugeot car.
The machine had registered a payment of only £1.
The fine increases from £30 to £95 if it is not paid, with the rest of the £410 being made up of bailiffs' fees - covering two letters they sent to Mr Galic and two visits to his property.
