If you are keen on toursitic diversions through local hotspots such as Hemel Hempstead then this weekend you are in luck, for that is what will happen if you try to use the southern part of the M1 on Saturday and Sunday.
The highways agency is demolishing the Junction 8 bridge causing the closure of the M1 from Saturday 15 March at 8pm through to 2pm on Sunday 16 March between junction 8 and junction 9. They are advising the use of alternative routes along the A1(M), M11 or M40, though not much help if you are planning a trip out of Luton airport for a spring break.
