Seat has unveiled its all-new Ibiza supermini. The wraps came off the five-door version of the small Seat at the firm’s Martorell HQ near Barcelona, and it will be followed by a saloon and estate. The car is all-new from the wheels up and is the work of ex-Lamborghini stylist Luc Donckerwolke.
Seat hopes the new Seat will make a bigger impact in the segment and says it has incorporated a number of ‘big car’ features into the bigger car. There is anew seven-speed DSG automatic/sequential manual gearbox, Hill Hold Assist, front fog lights with side illumination (cornering) function and combined AUX-IN/USB connectivity.
At 4.05m the new car is longer than the current model with wider front and rear tracks (30 mm and 33 mm respectively). Initially Seat will offer three petrol engine options: a 1.2-litre three cylinder 70 PS; 1.4-litre 85 PS four cylinder or 1.6-litre four cylinder 102 PS. There will be a range of diesels to follow.
Head of SEAT UK Peter Wyhinny said: ‘With the debut of this distinctive and clearly design-led five-door we are embarking on a major development of the SEAT range, with plenty more to come in the months ahead.’
