Was Jaguar making a profit in 2007?
Little is known about how well Jaguar and Land Rover did financially during their time with Ford, but the likely guess is that at times not particularly well, hence the sale to Tata.
However, since Tata took over more is apparently known about the selling power of the two premium brands and it is reported that the two carmakers made a strong profit last year.
Tata managing director Ravi Kant also said that the combined operations were profitable in each of the four quarters of the year, according to Automotive News.
As expected Land Rover has been doing better than Jag, and Kant said the off-road manufacturer is ‘very healthy and profitable’, while Jaguar was ‘turning around and is on the cusp of recovery’.
As recently as 2006, Jaguar was estimated to have lost more than $700million, so the news that both are turning a profit has come as something of a surprise.
