Tata has approved the LRX
Tata has given the green light to a number of new Land Rover and Jaguar models over the next five years, it has been reported.
Top of the list apparently is the Jaguar XE – a £40,000 two-seat sports car that is currently in the early planning stages.
It is not clear whether the car will be based on the XK or XF platform but reports suggest it will be ready in 2012.
Tata has also approved the Land Rover LRX, a sporting 4x4 that has been very well received.
It is understood the car will be built at the company’s Halewood plant and Land Rover is expected to double the production of that facility by 2012.
Tata chairman, Ratan Tata, said he has ‘great respect’ for the two luxury brands and revealed a five-year plan to build Land Rovers and Jaguars in the UK.
