The presenters of Top Gear have apparently signed a petition to stop an eco-town being built in Cambridgeshire.
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were said to have all supported calls to put the brakes on plans to create the eco-town at Hanley Grange near Hinxton.
The presenters were having a break from filming at Duxford Airfield on Monday when Cambridgeshire County Councillor Tim Stone pounced and asked them to sign the petition.
Interestingly all three were pictured with an old Alfa Romeo, leaving us to wonmder what part the Italian marque will play in the next series of Top Gear.
The town has been put on a shortlist of locations to build the eco-town, but critics say it would see 8,000 homes built on unspoilt countryside and prime agricultural land.
The scheme would also see thousands of extra cars on the already busy roads of the A1301, A505 and A11, they argue.
Residents have until June 30 to have their say before Ministers then reduce the list to 10 possible sites.
Cambridgeshire County Councillor Tim Stone, Local Member for Duxford, together with Hinxton Parish Council Chairman Jane Chater, collected the signatures from the three celebrities as they stopped off briefly in Hinxton.
Councillor Stone said: ‘The three presenters were very willing to sign the petition and had heard of the scheme.
May and Alfa. (Maybe that one's just parked)
‘I was pleased to see Jeremy Clarkson sign it as he is often a critic of environmentalists but on this occasion he, Richard and James were protecting our beautiful countryside from a scheme that threatens our environment.
'If Hanley Grange is built the lack of real public transport links together with the amount of extra traffic on our roads will mean we won't be able to drive anywhere.’
