Lancia has officially unveiled the new Delta, a car that will spearhead the brand’s return to Britain.
The car also has a big responsibility as it shares the name of the most successful rally car of all time.
As it stands the Delta is going to be launched with a 120bhp and 150bhp 1.4 Turbo Jet and a 120bhp 1.6 turbodiesel Multijet.
Then a 165bhp 2.0 Multijet and a 190bhp Twin Turbo Multijet will arrive.
Then there will be a 200bhp 1.8 Di Turbojet that, despite the name, is said to be a direct injection petrol unit with a 6-speed ‘box.
For those hoping for a successor to the Integrale the bad news is there has been no firecracker version announced yet, although 200bhp isn’t bad.
But a source close to Lancia recently told PistonHeads that the reason the company is reviving the Delta name is to cash in on the sporting credentials of the turbo four-wheel drive Integrale, and as such will bring out something similar.
