Let’s face it - Knight Rider was totally ridiculous, but we loved it. However when viewing figures started to flag towards the end of its lifespan the creators decided the only way to freshen it up would be to make it even more implausible.
Now, KITT could already do 300mph but the introduction of ‘Super Pursuit Mode’ for Series 4 gave the black Pontiac a 40% top end boost. Of course it would be silly to suggest that the standard Trans Am could exceed 300mph without some body tweaks so the producers chucked everything at it. No need to change the standard BF Goodrich tyres though, they’ll be just fine.
Now one of the original KITTs has turned up on eBay, having been converted to ‘Super Pursuit Mode’ for exhibition and promotional purposes. We really aren’t sure of the aerodynamic implications of the side pods and other add-ons, and those red back light don’t look all that great. That said, I’d still have it in my imaginary car collection….
