Night racing returns to Goodwood
Goodwood is to play host to racing under the stars during next month’s Revival meeting. The 90-minute endurance race will see a variety of fifties sports racers, such as the Jaguar C-Type, Aston Martin DB3S and Ferrari 750 Monza, battling it out in the autumnal twilight. Special permission has been granted to extend the racing into dusk on Saturday 20
September, for only the second time in the Revival’s history.
The first, in 2002, was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the inaugural Nine Hour International sports car race and this, fittingly, marks 60 years since racing began at Goodwood. Much like the previous running, it promises to be a great success. Alongside the cars are a stellar line up of drivers including Stirling Moss, Le Mans legend Derek Bell and former F1 racer Jochen Mass.
The event runs from the 19th-21st September and organiser Lord March said: 'I am really excited by the prospect of staging this race again, which will bring the concept of the Nine Hour race back to life in a most dramatic fashion. Ever since 2002, it has been an ambition of mine to see racing of this sort return to Goodwood. The cars will look magnificent, racing against the backdrop of an autumnal West Sussex sunset, maybe with the odd star twinkling above.'
