The new Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series is undoubtedly a monster of a car but the only people unlikely to be fazed by its power are professional racing drivers. This is not the case though according to an interview with DTM (German Touring Car Masters) driver Bernd Schneider, who drives the car in this new video.
OK, so it’s a Mercedes video but it is still interesting to hear the legendary driver saying that both the Black series and his DTM C-Class have similar acceleration and in fact the road car feels even quicker in reality. The twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 in the Black Series is more powerful than the DTM car at 661bhp and it has been restricted to 738lb ft of torque.
Although the car still weighs a hefty 1,870kg, it is 250kg lighter than the SL65 thanks to weight-saving measures such as removing the folding hard-top and replacing it with a fixed carbon fibre roof. Schneider describes the Black Series as ‘like riding on a bullet’ and you can see the car in action below…
