Renault says the Ondelios draws its inspiration from the world of aviation to deliver high aerodynamic efficiency with a Cd of just 0.29.
The car sits on 23ins aluminium wheels with propellor-like hubs said to draw airflow from the sides of the car to prevent turbulence, while the boomerang-shaped tail-lights are ringed with air extractors to control the flow of air from the wheel arches.
The glazed roof is designed to bathe the interior in natural light, an effect helped by butterfly doors which are also extensively glazed. “We think of it as made from a single material, where the body and glazed areas merge,” says Le Quément.
Inside, the Ondelios features two rows of three aircraft style seats to make full use of available space, as well as the usual array of concept car technologies to wow show-goers.
Predictably, a hybrid powertrain is envisaged for the car, with a 2.0dCi engine combining with electric motors to provide propulsion.
