The final encore of the McLaren-Mercedes SLR is turning into a bit of a drawn-out affair. Not that we are complaining mind you, but for a car that is on its last legs it seems surprising that we could be in store for two more variants.
The first is the ’09 722 S, which is basically a 722 without a roof. Interestingly the 722 was supposed to be a limited edition in itself, so does this make the S a limited limited edition? It also didn’t get the best reviews, so it is debatable what a roofless version can bring to the table.
The good news is that with a top speed of 220mph it will be one of the fastest convertibles ever built. It uses the coupe’s supercharged 5.5L V8, which produces 650hp. Only 150 S models will be built but before the McLaren disappears for good there is still a speedster version on the cards…
