The future of Bugatti has been open for debate for a while, and one of the questions is whether the company actually has a future at all. But while some people believe the Veyron was a one-off other reports have suggested that an even faster version is in the pipeline and possibly a successor.
But something new has now been brought to the table in the form of a rumoured uber-saloon to take on the likes of Rolls Royce. Who knows, perhaps the carmaker is even looking at a two-model line-up, of all things. Bugatti’s CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen has previously been quoted as saying a new model is due for launch in either 2011 or 2012, and while it was originally thought that it would be a new supercar, Automotive News is now suggesting that it could be a high-end saloon.
One possibility doing the rounds is that Bugatti would team up with fellow VW Group brand Bentley to work on the new model. The new Arnage saloon that Bentley is currently working on could form the basis for the big Bug and the two cars may even share the 1000hp W16 engine, although this has been denied by the companies. The likelihood is that at least some of the technology from the Veyron would end up elsewhere to recoup the car’s huge development costs…
