Not a pleasant sight in your mirrors!
Police in the Lazio region of Italy have a new weapon in the battle against the hordes of Fiat 500 Abarths terrorising the nation’s highways.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia is a factory ‘police special’ that entered service with Lazio’s finest at the weekend with a mission ‘to continue accident and crime prevention and sustain security on the Italian roads’. Roughly translated, the gift means Lamborghini test drivers should not have to worry too much about license points when burning up the blacktop in factory development hacks for another couple of years…
The LP560-4 Polizia will replace a police Gallardo introduced in 2004 which has apparently clocked up 87,000k with no major repairs required and only routine servicing.
The new model is fitted with the latest advances in police technology including video and gps-based equipment that uploads evidence of motoring transgressions in real time to police computers. The crime-busting supercar also carries more traditional items like a gun holster and the famous ‘Paletta’ hand-shaped stop sign that Italian highway patrols use to flag down their prey.
30 police officers are permitted to drive the Gallardo Polizia, and all have received special training from the aforementioned factory test drivers.
