While Nissan has been getting all the headlines for putting one over the Porsche 911 with its new GT-R, the Corvette ZR-1 has quietly gone and posted a 7:22.4 - a whopping four seconds quicker than the Z's previous best, and way out in front of Nissan's 7:29.
Corvette Racing works driver and old Nürburgring hand Jan Magnussen is taking the credit for the ZR-1's hottest lap yet of the 12.93-mile loop. The time is just 3 tenths off that set by the Dodge Viper ACR but, as ever, true comparisons remain almost impossible with so many variables affecting circuit conditions.
