New exhibits are delivered
The new Porsche museum being built in Zuffenhausen, Germany, has announced its first 12 exhibits. These will include the original prototype of the 924, and the iconic 356 cabriolet, still seen by some fans as one of the best-looking cars of all time.
The museum will replace the far smaller original that opened in 1976, which Porsche's website describes as 'set up entirely in accordance with the Porsche company motto: 'small but good'.' It has approximately 20 cars on display at any one time. The new project appears to break from this philosophy, promising around 300 exhibits when it is finished. Porsche explain that these exhibits will change with time, calling the project a 'rolling museum'.
The building itself is a striking piece of architecture, which is apparently intended to 'express the company's self-confident stance and high standards in architectural terms, while at the same time conveying the firm’s dynamism and vitality'. The museum will be based around 3 seperate themes; the 'spirit of Porsche', the history of the 911, and Porsche in motorsport.
Details have surfaced indicating that many original and restored classic Porsches will be on display, and almost every car will be in drivable condition. With true German efficiency the museum, first announced back in 2005, is expected to be completed on time later this year, opening at the beginning of 2009.
