The Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo has become the fastest one-make racing car ever to lap the Vallelunga Race Track near Rome. The car has officially tested at the circuit for the first time and is destined to populate the brand’s one make racing series.
Sadly Lamborghini has not released the actual time it took to do a lap of Vallelunga, but this hasn’t stopped it now referring to its Super Trofeo Series as the ‘fastest single-brand competition’. The inaugural race is at Silverstone on May 2 2009.
The Gallardo Super Trofeo is based on the new LP560-4 model and is powered by the car’s 5.2-litre direct-injection V10, which has been tuned to give a modest power boost of around 10bhp. Its power flows through the e.gear six-speed ‘robotized’ ‘box to the permanent all-wheel drive with viscous traction.
The suspension has been track tuned and the wheels are wrapped in competition Pirellis. The brakes have been upgraded, the interior has a lightweight racing seat and steering wheel, and the rear wing is adjustable. So Lamborghini, the PH team has decided it will graciously take a drive if there’s one going spare…
