Inspired by the racing success of the Scirocco GT24 which won its class at the Nürburgring 24hrs earlier this year, VW has taken the wraps off this racy looking concept – the Scirocco Studie R.
Revealed at the Bologna motor show, the Studie R features a nose job with three large air intakes designed to improve airflow to an uprated 270PS 2.0 litre engine, while the front splitter is there to minimise lift. The rear view is dominated by a large rear wing and a modified rear bumper incorporating a diffuser and twin oval tailpipes. Specially commissioned five spoke 19ins alloy wheels hide four piston brake callipers and racing-derived (it says here!) sports suspension.
Inside the driver gets lots of black and white nappa leather with carbon fibre trimmings, while the exterior features a tastefully executed paint job with red and green highlights and Bologna ’08 badges designed to maximise appeal for the show’s home crowd.
While the Studie R is not planned for production, it could be a taste of what to expect from the rumoured Scirocco R20T – a hot model in the works that will share a 245bhp turbo engine with the Audi A3. The R20T will reportedly hit the street in 2010 as a successor to the Golf R32, boasting a 155mph top speed and a sub 6-second 0-62mph time. Expect to pay around £25k.
