300c: Not a great vote-winner
US president elect Barack Obama’s Hemi V8 powered Chrysler 300C has popped up on eBay, with the latest owner setting an eye-watering $100,000 opening bid.
The 2005 model year, 20,000-mile car with leather trim was Obama’s ride of choice before he wised up to the political necessity of greener transport – and traded it for one of Ford’s less than inspirational hybrid Escape SUVs.
The Illinois senator made the trade after being duffed-up by the US media last summer for a speech chastising the Detroit industry’s failure to produce cars that reflected changing consumer needs for greater efficiency.
According to US price guides, a low mileage 2005 model 300C should fetch $15,000 at the most. We’ll find out in a week if the Obama magic is worth an additional $80k or more – bidding ends on December 17th.
