Radical has had its most successful year ever despite the rest of the car industry facing economic crisis, PistonHeads can reveal. The company said that in 2008 it had a turnover of £10million and sold a record 120 cars.
Radical co-founder, Mick Hyde, told PH: ‘This has been the best year ever for Radical. We have 40 cars on our order books at the moment and interestingly the majority are our more expensive models. We are selling a lot more cars all over the world thanks to an expanded distribution base, especially in Saudi Arabia and Dubai.’
The company has also extensively updated its range for 2009. Leading the five model range is the Radical SR8 Supersport/LM which includes a new stiffer, crash-tested chassis which further improves handling and safety.
Radical said that uprated steering makes the car even easier to drive and all-new cast aluminium wheels enhance the looks while further improving safety. The car is powered by Radical’s own 460bhp V8.
Even bigger changes have been made to Radical’s best-seller, the Radical SR3 Supersport. Over 400 of these cars have been produced to date and a revised chassis complies with the FIA Production Sportscar Safety tests.
An all-new raised-nose aero package considerably increases downforce, and the latest generation of Powertec Suzuki motors give even more power.
The Honda Vtec-powered Radical SR5 Endurosport has benefited from both chassis and engine developments. Winter testing has confirmed a big improvement in handling with reduced lap times.
A new version of Radical’s smaller SR4 Clubsport has also been announced. This highly successful racer is now available with a 150bhp Powertec engine and a price tag below £25,000.
