Brochure scans for Merc’s 2010 E-Class have leaked onto the web, revealing details of the regularly scooped new model’s interior and specifications.
Next year’s E is expected to be shown for the first time at the Frankfurt motor show in the Autumn, although the first officially released pictures are expected later this month. However these German brochure pages should tell you most of what you need to know, including what it’s going to look like from the driver’s seat.
The angular new interior reflects the edgy exterior design and according to some reports is designed to give the latest E a more ‘hewn from solid’ feel redolent of earlier generation Mercs – for instance the W124 series introduced in the mid 80s.
As well as the new look and increased passenger room, the car features a raft of tech upgrades including the latest generation COMAND system and safety features including lane-drift warning and an eye monitor that can tell if you’re dozing-off at the wheel.
The brochure also confirms the new model’s dimensions as 12mm longer, 32mm wider and 13mm lower than the outgoing version. The wheelbase is stretched 20mm to help improve legroom for rear passengers.
There are five petrol engines offered, including a 1.8 with 184 or 204hp, a 3.5 V6 making 272hp (with 4MATIC) or 292hp, and a range-topping 5.5 litre V8 making 388hp – available with all wheel drive.
Diesel options will include three versions of a new 2.1 litre four-cylinder making 136, 170 or 204hp, and a 3.0 V6 making 231hp.
The new saloon will be joined by an estate and coupe next year, with hybrid and AMG versions following in 2011.
