Despite bringing us cracking soundtracks from the RS4’s V8 and the classic Quattro five-cylinder, Audi is not perhaps the first carmaker you think of when it comes to noise. That is all about to change thanks to the fact a V10 has just been strapped into the R8 supercar. It is of course a similar unit to that in Lamborghinis, and is currently doing service in the S6, and sounds absolutely glorious.
The driver in the video has been tasked with continually pumping the accelerator to make as much noise as possible, and does a great job of it. Oh, and bonus points for the drift at the end. The engine is a 258kg 5.2-litre naturally aspirated unit that pushes out 525bhp. It can rev up to 8,700rpm and achieves a specific power output of 100.9bhp per litre.
It becomes available in Germany from the second quarter of 2009 at a base price of €142,400.
