New Zealand’s first ever supercar has been revealed – the Hulme CanAm. Displaying more than a hint of Caparo T1, the Hulme is powered by a 7.0-litre Chevrolet V8 and is built by a 68-year-old called Jock Freemantle.
The story goes that Jock decided one day to take on the world’s supercar manufacturers – and this is the result. The car 600bhp and although no weight is specified, we’re guessing it’s not going to be much.
0-62mph is theoretically under three seconds and the car should reach a few miles shy of 200mph. It is named after former NZ F1 champion Denny Hulme and Freemantle has apparently sold his house to finance the project.
At 700,000 US dollars it ain’t cheap and it really is going to have to be special to take on the Zondas of this world.
