Details and an image of Chrysler’s new 300 have apparently leaked out via the carmaker’s viability plan recently submitted to the US Government.
Obviously as with many retro-looking cars like the MINI and Mustang Chrysler is facing the problem of creating a more modern-looking retro car. This has been done by keeping the basic profile but updating the look with new lights and grille, and generally rounding off the edges.
Overall it looks a little sleeker but the handsome, uncluttered shape of the 300 has not been lost. The rear should be as clean as the front and reports suggest the use of LED lights.
The V8 from the previous model will be carried over, with the bonus of being cleaner and more efficient, and there will also be a frugal six-cylinder engine with around 260bhp.
An artist’s impression of the interior shows a sumptuous, if rather old fashioned, cabin with lots of leather and wood.
There is no official word on when the car will be released, but expect 2010 for the US and possibly the year after for a UK launch.
