The ongoing saga of what will power the new baby Rolls-Royce RR4 has finally drawn to a conclusion, with bosses at the Goodwood factory finally deciding upon a turbocharged V12.
Shown as a production ready concept called the 200EX at the Geneva motor show, the ‘small’ Rolls-Royce will use a reworked version of the BMW V12 and according to company officials will produce over 500bhp, making the RR4 not only lighter than the Phantom, but more powerful too.
All that power will be delivered through a new ZF eight-speed gearbox to help return the ultimate in luxury Rolls-Royce refinement and passenger comfort.
The car’s sleeker roofline and lower kerb weight, thought to be in the region of 2000kg, will also improve the new Roller’s fuel economy and CO2 emissions, and might go some way to helping buyers keep hold of a little bit more cash after the £170k initial outlay.
