It’s fair to say that the Chinese are an emerging presence in the global car market. Manufacturers like Chery, Geely and Brilliance are striving to make an impact on the Western world but unsurprisingly it’s this that has caught our eye.
Based on the Peugeot Hoggar Concept from 2003, this two-seater buggy is actually smaller than the French designers had envisaged, and is better suited to the Mongolian hills than the Algerian desert the original was designed for.
Unlike the Hoggar Concept which had a transverse,
180bhp diesel engines mounted at either end, the Chinese counterfeit version uses a single 800cc Chery QQ engine. Like the original, power is transfered to all four wheels.
No one has claimed responsibility for the Hoggar look-alike yet, but it is believed to have come from a small manufacturer called Yon Kang. Whoever made it, you can be sure you won’t be seeing it on a beach near you any time soon.
