PH is inviting nominations for a series of brand new Awards designed to celebrate the year’s most notable automotive excesses, and to be presented for the first time at the annual ‘Black Tie & Pie’ event in November.
The intention is to provide an enthusiast’s antidote to the tidal wave of green and regulatory initiatives that threaten to swamp the cult of high-octane motoring here in the UK and around the world. For one night every year, no real tidal waves, or any of the other allegedly cataclysmic effects of our addiction to fossil fuel will be allowed to stand in the way of PH’s celebration of automotive excess – but we’re going to need your help!
We need suggestions for naming our new awards, as well as ideas for potential categories and actual nominations for those deemed worthy of collecting our prestigious PH ‘silverware’.
To set the ball rolling we’ve hashed out the following suggestions, but it’s all up for grabs. In the true spirit of PH we’re going to fine-tune the program as it develops, so please help us out with your contributions.
Best Professional Excess - celebrating the fastest, loudest, wildest or otherwise most gratuitously excessive new car, product or ‘happening’ from the world of car-makers, tuners, coachbuilders, customisers, event organisers or anyone else who gets paid to indulge their own automotive excesses.
Best Amateur Excess – as above, with the additional prerequisite that any nominated effort must be privately funded.
Best Motorsport Excess – this could go to a team, a driver or a race car in any category whose exploits suggest ‘cojones’ that are larger than the everyday.
All suggestions will be welcomed in the forums. In due course a hand-picked team of hardcore PH-ers will be invited to formulate a shortlist of Award finalists from all the feedback, and then you’ll get a chance to vote on the result.
Prizes from the PH Shop will be handed-out liberally to those whose posts - in the entirely subjective view of the team here in the office - make the most significant contributions to the new PH Awards.
Even better, if you come up with the best name for our new Awards you’ll get a pair of tickets and a hotel room for ‘Black Tie & Pie 2009’ paid for by us. You can’t say fairer than that!
