McLaren will launch its assault on the supercar market with three new models, including a planned successor to the epic F1.
New details of the McLaren plan to take on Ferrari and Porsche have been revealed by Autocar magazine this week, who claim their information comes from a ‘high ranking official at McLaren with intimate knowledge of the company’s business plan'.
First out of the blocks will be a mid-engined coupe codenamed P11 and a rival for the Ferrari Scuderia and Lambo’s Gallardo LP560. That will be followed by an ‘ultimate’ supercar that aims to take over from where the original ‘Macca’ F1 left off, by knocking the stuffing out of rivals like the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg CCX.
Autocar reports their McLaren insider thus: ‘We have just started looking at doing another F1. It is a clean sheet design.’
The magazine also claims that McLaren has an agreement with Mercedes over engine supply, and that Mahle (formerly Cosworth) will be contracted to develop and supply unique engine parts for the new McLaren powerplants.
