The V12 powered 1925 Sunbeam Tiger land speed record car has got to be pretty low on the list of historic vehicles upon which to base a new electric sports car, but design student Ryan Skelley has decided to pay homage to the record breaking machine.
Powered by a set of hypothetical lithium titanate batteries capable of a range of 800 miles, Skelley's modern take on the Tiger has been designed with the 100 year anniversary of the Sunbeam’s land speed record success in mind. With a theoretical launch date of 2025, Skelley will need all that time to get the battery technology up to scratch as the car's enormous range, 0-60mph time of 2.3 seconds and top speed of 160mph may well be hard to achieve.
But, the concept is not all about ludicrous battery technology, Skelley hopes his Sunbeam Tiger will use more environmentally friendly materials than the orginal. The 2025 Tiger will be made from recycled aluminium, use seats made of soy foam and biofabrics and come with brake pads made from natural fibres. Other inventive ideas include cornstarch tyres and locally grown hemp and vegetable oil resin body panels.
