Chevrolet has relaunched its classic Grand Sport badge on a new version of the 2010 Corvette.
The Grand Sport badge was first seen on a handful of early '60s racing 'Vettes, which have since entered the pantheons of history as probably the most desirable Corvettes ever built.
This latest Grand Sport option (the badge was last used on the 1996 Corvette) is designed to offer improved handling over the outgoing Z51 performance pack which it replaces.
The new car uses the same LS3 powertrain that produces 424hp and 424lb ft of torque from its 6.2-litre engine, but improves the 0-60mph time by 0.2sec thanks to revised gearings. More power is available with the optional dual-mode exhaust that will liberate an additional 6bhp and a further 4lb ft.
Improvements have also extended to the car’s suspension which uses some parts from the Z06's setup. Suspension modifications include revised shock absorbers, stabiliser bars and springs, all of which are said to provide more agile handling and greater performance.
The car gets a set of wider alloy wheels, and now uses extra-grippy 275/35ZR18 tyres on the front and 325/30ZR19 tyres at the rear.
The Grand Sport’s look has been modelled on that of the Corvette Z06, which means the new ‘Vette gets wider front and rear wings, as well as a Z06-style front splitter and rear spoiler. The Grand Sport will be available as a convertible, and will have the option of a removable roof for those wanting a coupe bodyshell. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available, with a six-speed manual or a six-speed paddle shift auto.
