Making the switch from virtual racing to real life wheel-to-wheel combat is quite a step up, but the winner of the Nissan/Playstation GT Academy has done just that, and is now being rewarded with a stint in the hot seat of a Nissan GT4 car.
After a successful outing in a Nissan 350z in the Dubai 24hr endurance race, Lucas Ordoñez will race alongside Alex Buncombe at Silverstone this weekend in the GT4 European Championship. Despite an encouraging start to his race career, Lucas will not have an easy time in the GT4 class, and Nissan bosses will expect the former bedroom racer to deliver on track before too long.
“By the end of the season he needs to be a regular podium visitor. For this weekend a top six finish would be acceptable.” Said Darren Cox of Nissan Europe.
For the time being though, Lucas just seems happy to be racing. “I can’t believe how much my life has changed since this time last year. I am learning more all the time – it is a dream come true for me,” he said.
Lucas will line up on the grid at Silverstone in the RJN Motorports race prepped Nissan 350Z, where he will take on a varied fleet that includes Aston Martin, Corvette and KTM X-Bow.
