The first V8-propelled vehicle to be built in Detroit heads a list of ‘The 50 Worst Cars Of All Time’ compiled by TIME magazine.
We’ll leave you to discover – and argue over - the other 49 choices for yourselves, but we couldn’t pass up a chance to profile the 1913 Scripps-Booth Bi-Autogo which apparently forms part of the Detroit Historical Museum’s permanent collection.
Detroit V8 lovers, it all started here...
Weighing-in at 3200lbs, the Scripps-Booth Bi-Autogo is a sort of car/motorcycle cross-over rolling on 37ins wooden wheels supplemented by stabilisers at the rear.
The hefty motor displaces 6.3 litres to produce a mighty 45bhp (they obviously hadn't considered supercharging), and as well as the first Detroit V8 the Scripps-Booth Bi-Autogo lays claim to the first steering-wheel mounted horn, and the first concealed door hinges on a car-type vehicle/thing.
