The annual Silverstone Classic race event will return this July with 4000 cars on display and over 700 vehicles taking to the Silverstone track.
PistonHeads was invited to yesterday's media preview and managed to score a surreal passenger ride around the circuit in a Routemaster bus with event host Murrary Walker!
It is the second year that the nation's favourite commentator has championed the three day classic racing event, but for the first time the Silverstone Classic will also play host to live concerts with evening performances from the
Pussy Cat Dolls and guitar legend Carlos Santana.
During the day, more than 80 car clubs will display over 4000 classic cars of all ages. More than 900 different drivers will lap the Silverstone circuit in a collection of cars from as far back as the Edwardian age.
Yesterday's preview saw a wide collection of classic cars lapping the circuit including a 1910 Lancia Tiedemann, Jaguar D and E types, and a 10-litre Wolseley-Siddeley Coppa Florio racer. But the 24-26 July race weekend promises to be an even wider-ranging affair with GT cars, Group C cars, Minis and Touring Cars.
Jaguar will be this year’s featured marque and will be exhibiting and racing a number of its vehicles from the heritage fleet, alongside other privately owned pre-1960 XKs, Mk1 and Mk 7 models.
The 50th anniversary of the Mini will also be celebrated with four exclusively Mini races, in which Minis as varied as the Mini Se7en to the 125mph Mini Miglia will
compete. There’ll even be a ‘Mini Libre’ class for any Mini racer that either looks like, or is based on a Mini.
Visitors to this year’s Silverstone Classic will also have access to the paddock area as well as grandstand seating.
More information about the racing and evening’s entertainment can be found on the Silverstone Classic website.
