This GreenGT design concept has been produced to explore an environmentally-conscious future for top-level motorsport.
According to a press release from GreenGT in France, the machine you see here has been conceived as an FIA-certified electric racer with a carbon fibre chassis and fibre glass body.
It’s still a concept at this stage, but it seems the boffins behind the GreenGT hope to see it on the track at Le Mans in 2011 – with 22 road-going versions scheduled for production between now and then.
Power comes from a pair of 100kw electric motors coupled to a racing gearbox, and power will be in the region of 350-450hp. Torque is even more impressive at 1,475lb ft up to 100mph, then artificially limited to 590lb ft to assist high speed traction. That all adds up to a 0-60 sprint of less than four seconds, and a top speed of over 170mph – apparently!
Power comes from two lithium-ion batteries, topped-up by solar panels which – just might – be useful for approximately half of the French endurance classic.
