Italians get Lamborghinis or Ferraris, while the Germans make use of Porsches and M-Power BMWs, but since the demise of Rover the poor British copper has been forced to rely on foreign talent for his flagship pursuit car. However, things might be changing for the better as the police are testing the suitability of Jaguar’s XF for their high-speed chase units.
This is the first ever police-spec XF that will be evaluated by forces across the country for its suitability in catching baddies. Powered by the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel S engine producing 271bhp, the police liveried XF is completely standard except for the LED police lights and communication equipment, and will still crack 60mph in 5.9sec.
Jaguar’s UK boss Geoff Cousins is confident the police will take to the XF with open arms. 'The Police Officers driving pursuit vehicles demand a very high level of performance and handling, as well as safety and comfort. We hope that with this amount of torque on tap, the XF will meet and exceed the exacting standards of any officer driving this car.' he says.
Expect to see Police XFs like this one on UK roads shortly. Who knows, but when a few more speed cameras have been emptied, an XF-R or two might find their way onto the fleet.
