Camaro: coming to Europe as part of 'new GM'
Jurgen Keller, Chevrolet Germany’s general manager has told German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport that the muscle car icon will find its way to Europe through official channels.
Few details are confirmed – and Camaro production will have to catch up with high levels of demand in the US first – but expect details on price and spec to be announced soon.
There’s no word on whether the car will come to the UK even if it does come to continental Europe.
The most likely powerplant for European Camaros will be the 6.2-litre LS3 V8 with either 400hp or 426hp, since the 3.6-litre 304hp V6 lacks the muscle-car kudos of its eight-cylinder cousins
A direct translation of price would put the range-topping V8 Camaro SS at about 25,000 euros, but it’s highly unlikely to get to Europe at such a low price.
Meanwhile General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent company, has successfully agreed the sale of its ‘good’ assets to a new GM, after bankruptcy judge Robert Gerber approved the sale late on Sunday.
“As nobody can seriously dispute,” Gerber wrote, “the only alternative to an immediate sale is liquidation – a disastrous result for GM’s creditors, its employees, the suppliers who depend on GM for their own existence, and the communities in which GM operates. In the event of a liquidation, creditors now trying to increase their incremental recoveries would get nothing.”
“This has been an especially challenging period, and we've had to make very difficult decisions to address some of the issues that have plagued our business for decades,” Said GM CEO Fritz Henderson in a statement. “Now it's our responsibility to fix this business and place the company on a clear path to success without delay.”
