Hard to believe for a company just celebrating it's long-held ambition to win (again) at Le Mans - or maybe not - but the latest 3.0 V6 version of Peugeot's 407 Coupe is the company's most powerful production car ever.
That's Peugeot's claim, not ours, and they should know - but the fact did make us pause for thought here in the PH office. Is this the same Peugeot with a 120 year history and a proud motorsport record? Still, it sounds like the perfect opportunity for a suitably-minded PHer to compile a list of rival manufacturers' best-ever production power outputs. We'd do it ourselves but, you know, it's Friday... (We've got a vital team building exercise scheduled at The Anglers!)
Back to the 407 and Peugeot reckons its new model - the £27,490 Sport 3.0 V6 HDi 240 FAP 6-speed automatic - offers 18 percent more power and 15 percent greater economy than the 2.7-litre V6 model it replaces. It will also reach 62mph in 7.7secs, which wouldn't have sounded too shabby for most of Peugeot's 120 year history!
There's also a new 2.0-litre HDi version, and spotters can recognise the latest versions of the 407 Coupe by the new chrome trim strip over the side windows and larger door mirrors.
