RCZ on sale in 2010 - model not inclued
Nearly two years after it revealed the swoopy 308 RCZ concept, Peugeot has finally confirmed its plans to put the Audi TT-rivalling coupe into production.
Peugeot originally revealed the 308 RCZ at the Frankfurt motor show in 2007, and will use the biennial show's return to the same show this September to reveal the RCZ in final production form before the car goes on sale in spring next year.
Unlike the original concept, the production RCZ will not use Peugeot's model number system - the first Peugeot ever not to do so, according to the company - emphasising the front-wheel drive 2+2's difference from the rest of the Peugeot range.
Whole car will be on show at Frankfurt
Peugeot says its design and engineering team has worked hard to keep the look and feel of the 2007 concept car and, if these teaser images are anything to go by, they haven't done a bad job. The double-bubble roof remains, as do most of the dramatic sweeps and curves.
Peugeot is remaining coy about the details of the RCZ's specification, but it seems more than likely the car will use Peugeot's range of turbocharged 1.6 petrol engines that it shares with Mini. The 2007 show car certainly signalled Peugeot's intent - that was fitted with a 218bhp 221lb ft version of the Peugeot-Mini four cylinder.
The base petrol model is expected to be fitted with Peugeot's 150bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre motor, and a range of four-cylinder turbodiesels will also be available. Transmissions are likely to be a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.
