A limited-edition throwback to the classic 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Supersport is on its way, at least if a rumour circulating the web proves well-founded.
The original '80s 911 Supersport was also known as the Turbo-look (or option M491 as any 'Wikipedia-enabled' expert will tell you), and was a ‘grand touring’ 911 featuring uprated suspension, brakes and the whale-tail bespoilered body from the then current Turbo model.
The Supersport reportedly under development today will be a Carrera 2S under the skin, but with Carrera 4S wide arches, front and rear bumpers modelled on the 911 GT3, a ‘double-bubble’ roof (spy-shots have been circulating for some time showing this roof on what are supposed to be ‘next gen’ 911 prototypes), and even a ducktail spoiler like the one on the old 2.7 RS. The car will get a factory power kit to bump up the horsepower, and the supposedly leaked details also extend to the interior, which is said to be trimmed in brown leather with a ‘retro’ feel. There’s even a price being mooted of £135k.
So plenty of details in the rumour mill then, but we’ll have to wait a while to see whether this particular 911 edition turns from rumour into reality. The story goes that the new Supersport arrives some time next year – if it does we think we’ll like it!
