New Bugatti: only the colour 'bugs' us (sorry)
A few weeks ago we exclusively revealed the
clearest teaser shot yet of the new four-door Bugatti
. Now some new not-exactly-slick renderings have emerged that give a much fuller look at the new Molsheim heavyweight. And yes, it's in pink.
Trying our best to ignore the garish topcoat for a moment, we can now see that the Bugatti being called the 'Bordeaux' could be a fastback super-saloon with four proper doors, which further supports the idea that the new car will share its underpinnings with a new VW Group stablemate, the upcoming 'Grand Bentley'.
The original source of these renderings is proving hard to verify (you can bet a tidy sum that these aren't 'official' pics), so we have to approach this with some scepticism (would Bugatti release a rendering in a colour like this?), but we won't have to wait long to find out how accurate it is, as a concept version of the new Bug should be on display at the Frankfurt show in September.
Based on our 'pinch of salt' impressions drawn from these sketches, the front end suggests a 'family look' for the new Bugatti, based on the heavy snout of the Veyron, and subtle cues all over evoke the Veyron's sleek, muscular form.
The rear also seems more than a little influenced by the Porsche Panamera, which may be a very good or very bad thing, depending on your view of the Porsche.
Vertical 'spine' reminiscent of Type 57 Atlantic
The wonderfully preposterous eight-exhaust set-up is pure Hot Wheels but, like the vertical 'spine' that bisects the rear window, the exhausts are reminiscent of the classic Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic.
The outrageous exhausts might also just be a mechanical imperative of the likely W16 engine, rather than pure aesthetic showboating.
Being a Bugatti you can expect the price to be as unsubtle as that pink paint (current estimates are around 1.3 million euros [£1.1m]), and it is expected to go on sale around 2013.
